Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes and provide an opportunity to gain qualifications at the same time as earning a salary.

Employers use apprenticeships as a way to recruit new employees or as a training programme for existing staff.  These programmes are mostly delivered through a combination of learning ‘on-the-job’ and time at a learning provider, such as a local college.  An apprenticeship is a programme of study that is made up of a combination of qualifications.  These includes:

  • A technical certificate, which provides the knowledge needed to work in a particular sector of finance, accountancy or financial services;
  • A competence qualification, which supports the development of specific job related skills;
  • Key skills or functional skills qualification, which underpins the development of literacy, numeracy, communication, IT and team work skills.

These frameworks have a number of pathways to choose from and can lead into a range of careers including trainee underwriter, trainee claims official, trainee broker or sales representative, senior bank cashier, senior customer adviser, foreign currency adviser, corporate actions and settlement adviser, pension administrator or pension team leader.

This apprenticeship will enable people to become a qualified Mortgage Adviser, working with clients to explain mortgage products and analyse their financial situation and recommend an appropriate product.
