Industry Responds:
Aviva and Santander comment on what are the growing career areas in banking and insurance?
Financial services is continually growing and evolving to keep up with the latest technology and IT plays a significant role in this. Financial services might not seem the place to be to get exposure to the latest IT technology but at Aviva we are constantly looking for developers and testers along with Project Managers and Business Analysts. Entry level roles start from 1st line IT support which is a great place to learn the business and grow your career internally.
As you would expect, Finance will always be an area we heavily recruit into and this can start in a variety of areas including Credit Control, Payroll & Employee Expenses among others. We are always looking for people with AAT qualifications for more junior roles and ACA or ACCA for senior positions. Finance Analysts, Financial Accountants and Auditors are some of the key roles we recruit for at a more senior level.
The diversity of roles within Aviva is huge and we can offer careers in areas such as Risk, Finance, Claims, Underwriting, IT, Marketing, Legal, Customer Service, Administration & Sales. All of these areas offer entry level positions and the opportunity to develop your career right through to Head of Department and beyond. Visit the Aviva micro site on Directions to find out more about the entry opportunities.
The retail banking sector has undergone significant change over the last few years, which has meant that employers need to ensure they have the right people with the right skills. This has resulted in a drive to recruit more skilled people into certain roles. Santander UK is likely to experience growth in job areas including many business areas. Through our Early in Career (EIC) schemes, which are increasing in numbers in 2012, we offer the opportunity for people to enter and develop a career with us. Working with the Financial Skills Partnership we are promoting work experience and school leaver opportunities. Additionally we are looking to recruit around 100 graduates to start a 2 year programmes in September this year, and are offering 70 summer internships for penultimate year undergraduate students. People who join one of our EIC schemes will become an ambassador and will convey their own experience to potential applicants through delivering school skills sessions. We are also finalising plans to recruit up to 100 apprenticeship positions for 2012.
